back in business

Our 2 Hens and one Rooster have been free ranging the backyard

If I sit on the deck, they hop up on the lawn furniture to peer at me thru the railings

They're a sweet lot, very well mannered, they get out of your way quickly, and quietly follow us around the yard when we garden, without getting too much in our space.
The rooster occasionally gets a wild hair and goes cock-a-doodle crazy for a few minutes, but not too often

They've started laying again, and are putting in about a dozen + eggs per week..offsetting their keep,  overwinter they are expensive pets.

One of them runs like the wind, fastest chicken I've ever seen..and seems to enjoy it, she will hang back from the others, and when they're about 20-30 feet out, she blasts off like a bat outta hell.. sprinting across the yard, her wings tucked close.

They aae a much more peaceful lot than the 12 Rhode Island reds we had down south. They seem to have a handle on the  whole communal living gig. Not much fussing, or fights, or bullying
Everybody is happy together or apart

All three of them have the knack for mimicry, they growl at the dog next door, or rattle back at the crows...sounds I did not think chickens capable of.
The rooster who is the gentlest of roosters around us, has the rottweiler next door scared of him..the big dog rushed the fence one day when a hen was grazing nearby, the rooster  took  great offense at this act of agression, and with a deep long growl, and fluffed his wings out, fearlessly charged the dog at the fence and the dog ran like heck all the way back to his back porch. And has never bothered our chickens again.
